1.
When spaceships collide, it provides a shift in the atmosphere A fever in the cosmos A friendship on high We spend our afternoons entwined Watching cartoons, drunk on wine We travel as a pair We share our eyes and a spoon But then there are those times that we just don't get along I get stubborn on my boyish pride She criticizes my optimism We look over our shoulder Watch each other talk to strangers And get mad, pretend to sleep Wallowing through the night alone We scheduled a date to smooth things out I wore my coat of many colours She wore that black dress that I love We plugged our quarter in the jukebox It cranked out our favorite song We road an elevator to the top floor of the sky I miss you, when I can't kiss you If you accept my invitation, this year we'll fly When I cry out "All's forgiven. Just hold me tonight"
2.
I tried to keep that lovely aztec anklet Tied to me for so long It stayed warm inside my sock (which kept the world away) But in the end, I don't know how it mattered Next to this land of night time neon things Which noticed how it glowed How you glowed I did not tell the magazine About how I pawned off a piece of my illumination I did not tell the newspaper About the broken instrument I tried to retune it, but the melody had left my head So when I sing to you, let's forget it's snowing in Chicago And we'll dance across McKinnley Park Til our eyes are blind with wine It was easy to forgive the way you clung to my tendons But hard to forget, when you let go We're going, going. glowing gone
3.
My sadness is a special thing Like tenderness must feel to thieves With slingshots sewn to fingernails Gently laid on sleeply pillows My sadness is a precious stone Projecting lights on dancing pine cones Which can't be seen through gaiety When the day of leaves has quickly fallen We hung like sullen stars at night time from the balcony With a panoramic view of the city It kept us warm on winter nights The coldest toes I've ever known Her glove concealed her glistenring But still, it sings! Her sadness scares the alter boys That steamy lipstick kissed my throat I choked And though we didn't have the lungs to breathe We had the sparks to scream Well, I met her at the Milk Bar We sank inside a prism Sipped from a Venetian shot glass And talked about her sadness It made her happy It made her dad happy
4.
The world fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle Scattered pieces of water and circuitry They plugged it in They watched it spin The sun was just a bouncing ball It kept us warm It lit the stage We played and we remembered How the seams beneath our feet were tightly knit But trying to breathe They came apart on Sundays It ruined the entire homily What can we do without our orders? What will we do without our orders? But still, the clouds had saliva for the seas And the trees were umbrellas for the monkeys And our eyes were windows Blinking curtain shades They fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle But a blue chip strayed, it wondered into space Bye, Bye You can kiss it all goodbye You can kiss it all goodbye Bye, Bye

Gentle cycles Rolling, lost Pushing your stroller to the park Where the jungle gym hangs upside down We played hide and seek til the merry go round found us Gentle patterns of glowing stars We're told it stays dark all night But we could never stay awake long enough To see for ourselves And change occurred gradually Spinning spokes on a heated road The tread on the tires softened halfway down the ramp And change occurred steadily We held on to our steering wheels Do we reintroduce as strangers When we meet halfway along the path? You told me I was still the boy you fell in love with years ago I curled inside the corner of your song Like a penny in your pocket Or a sound you found in baby grass I tried to die inside your arms Right then and there But underneath maturing hair I knew There was still more work to do Stay with me know As the curtain wraps around this field Some sinister reminder of the clock and all it's wheels There's time for everything inside this plain There's a time for laughing recklessly A time for play There's a time to leave those things that don't let go And a time to retun Give me one thousand hours to throw away In your arms And I'd return

Oh le, oh sad cassetto Oh le, oh sad cassetto Won't you walk me home my headphones Oh? Oh! Won't you walk me home my headphones Oh? Oh! So many mixed messages in your mixed tape Stop fast forward, you pause, you rewind So many mixed messages in your mixed tape Stop fast forward, you pause, you rewind Oh le, oh sad cassetto Oh le, oh sad cassetto Won't you walk me home my headphones This forest wants to eat me alive! Won't you walk me home my headphones This forest wants to eat me alive! So many mixed messages in your mixed tape Stop fast forward, you pause, you rewind So many mixed messages in your mixed tape Stop fast forward, you pause, you rewind Oh le, oh sad cassetto Oh le, oh sad cassetto You're so sad You're so sad cassetto

80 Acres 05:22
There running O' blue prairie hill, we tumble down Rolling through grass stains Far in enough in, that we can not hear the cowbells telling us "It's over" Where the windmill spokes shift with the changing wind My lover breathes 80 Acres My lover breathes 80 Acres The wind scurries quickly beneath the dreamy fog Clouds cluster over us Crashing above karaoke kisses And refillable mugs of aged brandy The thermometer line switches directions And she is dancing 80 Acres She is dancing 80 Acres Under sheets, whispers form Secrets are told By crackling locusts in the fields A flashlight fades beneath the blanket It shields us from mourning a morning As the windmill spokes shifts at the final moment My heroine fleas She sees through 80 Acres She sees through 80 Acres We're hiding from the lonely Inside theses fields, we're never lonely We're never lonely
9.
The lining of her inner tube Frills, elastic, hand sewn lace A perfumed vase drifting towards the headboard A nightstand and a bowl of cherries Sleeping bags above her cheeks She offered hashish and half the sheets So silently, I agreed to spend the night At my lover's lily pad Her pupils the size of Antares She gazed at me for confirmation My eyes replied like scorpions Both needy and aggressive My lover's lily pad is like the meadow Neverending grass green glow That sails across that salt shaker shaped sea My lover's lily pad The bed sheets dose doe across those rascal waves Til they scooted back into that blue gazebo Which glows like kaleidoscopes Those precious pixels peaking through her contact lenses We tried to toss our anchor into that creek But it will never tie us down It could never tie us down We're sleeping and dreaming of chasing minnows We're sleeping and dreaming of making honey My sweet, sweet honey
10.
Dinosaur Egg 05:30
We tried to fly away But the threads that built our angel robes were still attached to the sewing machine So we followed the worm halfway inside the apple Then we fell asleep And when we awoke, the apple seeds had turned into dinosaur eggs So we pulled out our tents We pushed poles in the gravel Here we shall stay Set the free! Don't keep these secrets tonight Put your flames to the curtains before they kill all the lights There's a brontosaurus that wags it's tail And there's a pterodactyl trying to learn to fly And we tried to save them, but they ran to hide So we tried to find them, but they left no tracks Now we've got to stay here until this dinosaur egg cracks

Baby Cacti 04:10
Salt and sand in it's crib A dirty bib Opened up it's mind Baby Cacti cried Misunderstood Snapped peyote buttons on it's favorite jacket They squeezed it's thighs Aloe Vera in their eyes They saw his name in red flames across the plain Baby Cacti's growing up Coaxing us to live again! Starfish in the sky Camels fled over mescaline waterfalls Expanding heads Stretching out like circus tents Mirage tides washed away the time All the excitement dulled their minds It squeezed their cheeks Leaving rows of jesters in retreat They searched for weeks trying to peek through an arid cloud Hallucinate, we'll wait for Baby Cacti to appear Every conversation hides a surprise!

about

When Spaceships Collide was recorded over a period of a week in the South Side of Chicago. After hearing the original Change! recordings, Paul Heintz (songwriter for Sunny Shadows, Calm Palm Vapor and Midstates) invited Aaron McEvoy to come to Chicago to record in his private studio for a week. The invitation was then extended to Rob Corradetti (Mixel Pixel, Killer Acid) who joined the week long recording session which resulted in ten of the eleven tracks. In need of a opener to the record, Aaron returned to Chicago a few months later with Max Breakwell (former Change! guitar player) to put the finishing touches on This Year We'll Fly.
